We interviewed 40 staff and students during first lunch asking them “Would you put clothes on your dog?”,”What are your opinions on dogs wearing clothes, ”is it for everyday wear?” and a few other questions to get these responses. Many said they would because “it shows the dog’s personality” or that it “makes them look funny”. A few people stated that they would only do it for special occasions or for Halloween. 10 people we asked already dress up their animals on a normal basis. One student said she dresses up her dogs to make them look better and because one of her dogs has a skin condition and wears sweaters often to help prevent scratching. A student we asked said they would not because their dog has fur and that was enough. Most of the staff we interviewed said that they would not dress up their dogs because they are “too big”, “she would eat it off and get too hot” and “he’s a senior citizen” one staff member also stated that they don’t have a dog but still would not put clothes on them. One couple we asked said “I would dress my dog up as famous person like a rapper.” There is many reasons why people would dress their dogs up or not. The question is would you?

I think dogs should wear costumes because they look silly.

I think if a doggy-wog gets cold, you should put a sweater on them. I tried dressing up my cats…they hunkered down on the grown and slunk around on their bellies until I took the sweaters off. I think my final thought is that if the clothes are necessary for bodily warmth or protection, go for it. Otherwise, leave the pets alone.
