Lady Cavs VS James Monroe
Lady Cavs VS James Monroe
Madison Winfrey, Sports Writer • April 1, 2021

On March 31st, our Lady Cavaliers went up against the James Monroe Mavericks on home turf. The girls put up a tough fight and held their own. The game was so intense, one of our fans got kicked out for unseemly behavior.  Some felt the refs made unfair calls in favor of the Mavericks. Our girls played the best to their ability in spite of the officials not being on their side. They stayed calm, cool and collected and brushed off any bad calls. Even though the Lady Cavs played a good game, it sadly came to a 30-56 loss. In my personal opinion, I would say Natalie Agee was the player of the game. Many bad calls were made towards her but she continued to play professional. When the Mavericks played rough, she got up and kept going. She had amazing hustle in this game, diving for every out of bound ball, making plays and being a real leader to her team. She is what the Lady Cavs should aspire to be. She didn't give up hope once in the game even when it wasn't in her favor. Keep up the...

The #6 Greenbrier West Cavaliers took on the #7 Webster Highlanders in the New River International Tournament on 3/31/2021. The Cavs worked hard ending the 1st Quarter 15-11 Webster up. After battling it out at half time the score was 35-22, Webster still up. At the end of the 3rd Quarter the score was 53-33. The Cavs pushed through the game, but couldn’t make it on top. The final score was  75-46. Although the boys didn’t win they still managed to play their best, so let’s look at our “Player of the Game,” Lawson Vaughan.    Lawson had 13 points, 9 Rebounds, 2 Blocks, and 1 Steals. Lawson played center, but can also play a power forward. We asked Lawson some of his feelings on last night's game and he said he felt like, “We didn’t play true to ourselves.” We also asked Lawson some ways he thinks he or the team could improve, and responded with, “[work on] shooting better free throws.” The final question we asked Lawson was, what are 3 things that he has...

Wrestling 3/27
Wrestling 3/27
Madison Winfrey, Sports Writer • March 30, 2021

This weekend, March 27th, Greenbrier West hosted a wrestling meet that included, East, Ripley, Meadow Bridge and of course, West. Our wrestlers did amazing defeating the majority of the teams AND beating East by a landslide. Eli White was one of the best wrestlers of the day, wrestling guys who were just as good as him but still coming out on top.    When talking to Mason Brown and Dalton Heath, they explained to me that the meet was one to remember. From their enthusiastic voices and actions, I could tell that they really enjoyed the meet and had a lot of fun wrestling. Both feel that they are having a great season with not only the wrestling aspect but also with their teammates.    When speaking with the two, I proceeded to ask Dalton how it felt beating East to which he replied, “It was a great feeling and an experience I won’t forget.” This led me to asking Mason how he feels his personal season is going. He answered, “I’m proud of myself, seeing where...
