This article is going to be about Halloween. It’s going to be about how it became Halloween and when it started just stuff like that. I think it is going to be an interesting topic. I think Halloween is the most popular holiday.

How did Halloween start and where did it start? The tradition originated with an ancient Celtic festival for Samhain when people would light bonfires and they would wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the  eighth century Pope Gregory III decided November 1 was the day to honor all saints. On October 31 many counties would celebrate hallows day to remember the dead. Halloween has been around for over 2,000 years.

Halloween started in 1840 in america it came to america by the irish immigrants. They show america Halloween by wearing costumes and masks to ward off harmful spirits. The new immigrants, more of the millions of irish fleeing the potato famine, helped popularize and celebrate Halloween. The meaning of Halloween is  souls of the dead can walk among the living and people put on costumes and they become other things or people treats get passed between people fires get lit and food is shared.

Why is Halloween important? Celt believes that the night before the new year the boundary between the living and dead became blurred. On October 31 night they celebrated Samhain it was believed the ghost of the dead would return. Today Halloween is a holiday and you dress up for fun and get candy it is especially for kids. Because they get to dress up as their favorite thing and collect candy.
