How Does Social Media Affect Politics?

Haley Manspile, Writer

How does social media affect politics? Social media has a tremendous effect on society today. With websites such as Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook things are being shared millions of times a day. Politicians were active on social media, but they did not openly participate as much as they do now. It is now used as a means of campaigning so they can persuade the public, but it isn’t as effective as it may seem. Media can fabricate stories, and cause fighting, which causes a ripple effect in politics.

Since the internet is user-based, this means that almost anyone can change or exaggerate what is happening in politics. This sparks drama and scandals. These scandals can cause a rip in the nation dividing the people more than what they are now. Politics in the media is negatively affecting the population and its people.
