The West Virginia Promise Scholarship is for high school seniors planning to attend a college in West Virginia. It’s an extremely beneficial scholarship for those planning on staying in state to further their education. It will pay $5,000 per year, or the cost of tuition and mandatory fees, whichever is less.

Recently, the minimum SAT and ACT score requirements for the scholarship were lowered.

ACT Minimum Requirement

  • ACT composite score – 21 (previously 22)
  • ACT English score – 19 (previously 20)
  • ACT Reading score – 19 (previously 20)
  • ACT Science score – 19 (previously 20)
  • ACT Math score – 19 (previously 20)

SAT Minimum Requirement

  • SAT composite score – 1080 (previously 1100)
  • SAT Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing score – 510 (previously 530)
  • SAT Math score – 510 (previously 520)

Even if you do not meet the SAT or ACT score requirements, students must complete the Promise application and FAFSA by the March 1 deadline. Students may take the ACT and SAT after submitting their application. Remaining SAT testing dates to qualify from Promise are May 7th and June 4th. Different tests sites are available for students as well, you may view these sites either on collegeboard.com or ask Mrs. Boggs, the school counselor.  Remaining ACT testing dates to qualify for Promise are April 2nd, June 11th, and July 16th. Other test sites are also available for the ACT.
