COVID-19 cases are rising again. Right now in Greenbrier County, there are almost 80 active cases of the CoronaVirus bringing the total number of known cases in all in Greenbrier County to 278, with a total of five deaths. Schools, small businesses, and town halls are shutting their doors across the county.

Recently, seven out of the eleven schools in Greenbrier County have closed due to active COVID cases. Greenbrier East,  Eastern Greenbrier Middle, Western Greenbrier Middle, Rupert Elementary, Ronceverte Elementary, White Sulphur Springs Elementary, and Lewisburg Elementary all closed their doors for sanitation and contact tracing. Just last month the entire GWHS football team and volleyball teams were quarantined after COVID exposure.

With GC schools being closed for an additional three days after Thanksgiving and winter sports postponed until January 11th, many are wondering if students are even going to back to school at all before Christmas Break.

As of November the 9th, Rainelle City Hall closed its doors due to COVID concerns. The City Hall meeting for the 9th was canceled as a precaution and the town hall will be closed until November the 17th. The next meeting is scheduled for the 23rd and can be streamed via Rainelle Town Hall Facebook.

Lastly, two small businesses in Rainelle have either closed their doors or taken extra precautions due to COVID exposure or concerns. On October the 28th, The Fruits of Labor Cafe and Bakery closed their doors and only provided carryout options. Similarly,  Studio 304, is only allowing one customer to be inside at a time. Reports say that the darkest days of the pandemic are yet to come. As patriots, we must protect one another by wearing our masks, washing our hands, and limiting contact this holiday season.
