This year, sophomore Kenia O’Neal will be attending Governor’s School of the Arts.The Governor’s School of The Arts program is a college schooling program that takes place for 3 weeks in the summer during the months of June and July. It is only available for Sophomores to participate, but those who are accepted into the program are sent to Marshall University in Huntington for 3 weeks, where they can hone and learn more about their skills in the arts.

The program itself offers several types of arts to expand upon; digital and studio arts, dance, acting/theatre, creative writing, vocal music, and instrumental music. Each day, students will go to a class lasting 3 hours where they can grow their art. 

In order to apply for the program, you have to be a Sophomore when you fill out the applications. You would have to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above for both Freshmen year and the first 9 weeks of your Sophomore year. You would also have to have an acceptable discipline referral. The applications run from sometime in November to halfway into December.
