Russell Owen Gilkeson or “Coach G.”, as most knew him, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday afternoon the 16th of October, 2016, at the age of 65. Coach G. was a Navy veteran and a teacher at Rainelle Junior High, Rupert Junior High, and Greenbrier West High School. Coach G. was an assistant athletic trainer at Greenbrier West in the early 80’s and became the head athletic trainer in 1991. Coach G. was a beloved coach and a trainer to many, and a caring friend to all. He was always there to help anybody in the sports programs with an injury. Whatever Coach G. could do, he did his best at it.

A banner in Coach G.’s honor will be placed in the commons for students and staff to sign by 4:30 10/20/16. The banner will be given in place of flowers.

Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Rainelle. Visitation is Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Johnathon Dierdorff officiating. The burial will follow at the Wallace & Wallace cemetery in Clintonville Memorial Gardens.
